Finalists Calculation

This is the example of the determination, how many teams from each country will participate in the finals.
It was decided that maximum number of the teams in the finals from one country is six and total number of them is 40

Fictional numbers of the teams participating in the 2nd round of Aliante (i.e. teams that have sent answers to 2nd round questions) are:

175

Georgia

145

Hungary

Lithuania

198

Montenegro

35

Netherlands

26

Poland

230

139

United Kingdom

1113

We determine the country with the highest number of participants - in this case it's Poland. Now we take its number of participants and divide it by 6 (the highest possible number of the finals teams from one country and thus number of Polish teams). So we get coefficient representing number of the participants per one finalist. It's (230 : 6 =) 38.33. And by this coefficient, we divide numbers of the participants in the rest of the countries and round up the results. So we obtain:

Country Participants After division Rounded results Difference

Poland

Lithuania

The last column is the difference between "After division" and "Rounded results".

Rounded results represent base numbers of the finals teams. But there is another seven teams to assign. So we look at the "Difference" column and find seven countries with the lowest number. Those are in sequence: Montenegro, Hungary, Georgia, the Netherlands, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and the United Kingdom (we don't look at Poland and Lithuania, because they already have 6 finalists).  We add one team in the finals to each of these countries, so the final results are:

Latvia

Lithuania

The result is that every country except Poland, Romania (with already maximum number of finalists), and Latvia (with the biggest "difference) get added one finalist.
